Auli is one of the finest skiing destinations in India. It is favorite tourist destination of nature lovers from all over the world. It is situated in Chamoli District of Uttrakhand state in India. It is a small hamlet and the skiing grounds range from 2500 m to 3100 meter above sea level. It is snow clad in winters and its slops are best for skiing. In summers it is covered with green grass thus called as Bugyal or meadow. Auli grounds are surrounded by deep Golden Oak forests. The forests are so deep that even sun is not visible through the woods. In rainy reason the forest becomes very humid.
You can see splendid mountain ranges from the here. Even helipad ground of Ghangaria is visible from here. You can see 180 degree snow clad peaks from Auli during winters. For trekkers Auli is the starting point of trek to Kuari Pass. If you are interested in a small trek you can trek up to Gorsan and do overnight camping.
Indian Olympic Association hosted 1st South Asian Winter Games at Auli. India got the maximum number of medals with 11 Gold, 10Silver and 12 Bronze medals.
Location of Auli.
It is 290 kilometers from Haridwar, it is 14 kilometers from Joshimath. Joshimath is on National Highway 58. It takes about 8-10 hours from Haridwar to reach Auli.
Famous Auli Ropeway.
The ropeway was closed for 3 years and it may open soon. One must not miss a chance to visit Auli using ropeway. Ropeway starts from Joshimath and leaves at the top of Auli. On the way you can see some beautiful apple orchids, dense forests, snow clad peaks and of course the meadow from the top.
